Australian Parents Council

The APC formed out of the 1962 ‘Goulburn Strike’ when the parents of 2000 Catholic students protested the injustice of them paying taxes but being denied government funding to support their children’s education. Aa a national organisation, the APC’s founding purpose was to continue the parent campaign for ‘freedom of school choice and a fair share of the public purse’.

I see the role of the Australian Parents Council and all its affiliates to be the guardian, the voice, the defender of parents’ rights (Founding member Brian Keating, 1987).

MISSION

To promote choice and quality in schooling, the equitable distribution of government funding for schooling, and effective partnerships to maximise schooling outcomes.

Catholic School Parents Australia

CSPA was formed in 2013 by state/territory Catholic school parent bodies and has status under Canon Law as a private association within the Catholic Church. It works in collaboration and consultation with the National Catholic Education Commission and is recognised by the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference through the Bishops Commission for Catholic Education.

OBJECTS

Key objects of CSPA include providing a ‘distinct voice’ for Catholic school parents with Catholic and other agencies to help shape national policy, to collaborate to promote the principles of Catholic education, to promote the Church’s mission in Catholic schools and to promote and champion the interests of children in Catholic schools.
